Seven Days Without Sleep Makes One Weak

All right, the first week is done! Mom and Dad are exhausted, but we are slowly settling into a routine. We are still feeding Ella about every 4 hours, and we think the sweet spot is 2, 6, and 10, to work best with our schedule and hers. We definitely have had many fun moments together this week. We also probably have about 10 hours of film. Thank goodness for the digital age!

Ella's status is excellent - we know this from the plethora of Dr. visits we had. Going back to last Tuesday, Ella had an in-home visit from a nurse. She weighed her (gaining weight!) and checked her breathing. She returns tomorrow. On Friday, we visited the Pediatrician for the first time. He seems like a great guy, down to Earth and practical. He feels that if we are comfortable and Ella continues to gain weight and do well, we can try things in late March like stopping her Mylanta and letting her sleep through the night. (That would rock!) We see him again next Monday. Finally, we had our First Steps counseling visit. First Steps is a State-funded program that assigns specialists (physical, fine motor skills, dietitian, speech, etc), to visit on a monthly or weekly basis, based on the needs of the child. While the program is for developmentally delayed kids, Ella automatically qualified based on her low birth weight and sustained oxygen assistance. Hopefully we won't need to use the program a lot, but it will be nice that she'll be professionally assessed for developmental milestones in her first few years.

Sorry for the length between posts - I am sure they will stretch out for awhile. Although who knows - as Mom begins to enjoy her 2-month stay at home with Ella, the posts may start back up again. : )
